COVID-19 Pandemic
Photos taken during, and inspired by, the pandemic.
I began taking this series of photos on March 27, 2020. Governor Scott's Stay Home Stay Safe order had been recently released and I was walking outside for exercise. I was struck at the absence of life in downtown Burlington, VT. The empty spaces where normally people would congregate, shop, recreate, even park. I knew from day one that this would be a long running series of photos.
Photographs in this gallery are sorted so that the most recent ones are on top. If this is your first time here, you may want to go to the last page and scroll all the way to the bottom so you can start at the beginning.

With a string of days where temperatures in the 80's and 90's, North Beach has been a popular spot. Depending on your perspective and lens, it can look ridiculously crowded or nearly empty. Many folks congregated just north of the pavillion. In general I would say it was people in their teens and twenties spending time with friends, but not exclusively so. No one, regardless of age or background, was wearing a mask on the beach. In a different state, that would frighten me. Vermont, however, has shown single-digit daily growth in new COVID-19 cases. Given that everyone is outdoors and the breeze is blowing, I feel like we're unlikely to see a large outbreak traced back to the beach. (I hope.)
